Big adventure bike owners now have another dirt-intended tire option from Michelin

If you own a BMW R1200GS, KTM 1190 Adventure, Suzuki V-Strom 1000, Yamaha Super Tenere, or any of the big adventure bikes, you now have another dirt-intended tire option thanks to Michelin. Just introduced and to be available in March is the Anakee Wild, a full-knobby tire intended for 50/50 street/dirt use. Michelin is clearly targeting the long-popular Continental TKC 80, and will have the Wild available in four sizes initially—110/80-19 and 120/70-19 fronts and 150/70-17 and 170/60-17 rears—with more sizes coming later.

Michelin says that “teeth lines” on each side of the knobs are there to help release mud.

Michelin says the tire is “perfectly aligned for those who view biking as an expedition,” which explains the three main development areas: on-road stability and comfort, resistance to overheating and wear, and increased wet-road and off-road traction. For the last, the Wild gets a four/five alternating knob pattern—four blocks across alternating with five—inspired by Michelin’s Paris-Dakar rally tires.

Want more tech? Check out Michelin’s video:

“Teeth lines” on each side of the knobs help release mud, so says Michelin, while small block bridges (on the outermost of the five-block rows) that rise partly up the knob help improve on-road stability. Generously sized tread blocks and a prominent set of center blocks will help as well.

We’ll be riding the Anakee Wilds at the end of March on our long-term KTM 1290 Super Adventure and will let you know how we like ‘em soon after. Michelin hasn’t released prices, either, but those will come soon enough.
